Course Rules & Requirements:
Nasty Stuff -- To Be Taken Seriously!
1. This course is akin to a seminar. The success of this course absolutely requires your active and regular participation. These rules are designed to ensure your participation.
2. Regular classroom attendance is very important. Any student who misses more than three classes will be asked to withdraw from the course. Furthermore, there will be a penalty for unexplained absences.
3. Active classroom participation is very important. Approximately 33% of your grade will be based on your classroom discussion.
4. Active participation in internet discussion (see Description of Course & Logistics) is also very important. Approximately 33% of your grade will be based on your internet exchanges.
5. The remaining 33-34% of your grade will be based on the written assignments in this course. Written assignments must be submitted when due. The grade for a written assignment will be reduced by at least one full letter for each day that your assignment is overdue.
6. The atmosphere in class sessions is usually informal. Nonetheless, the business of this course is serious and it demands your full attention. This means that you are not free to chatter while other people are discussing their work or projects. It also means that you must be punctual. You are expected to stay the full length of the class. Above all, you must exercise basic courtesy and civility toward everyone in the class.
7. This not a "gut" course. You are expected to work in this course.
